The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a voluntary Code of Practice in the construction industry and aims to improve the public image of the industry by minimising any disturbance or negative impact caused by construction sites to the immediate neighbourhood. The Scheme commits participating contractors to be considerate and good neighbours, as well as clean, respectful, safe, environmentally conscious, responsible and accountable.
The Considerate Constructors Awards recognise the standard of excellence afforded by a construction site towards its workforce, neighbours and the environment. In 2008, there were 7,000 eligible sites across the United Kingdom but only 7½%received an award for their performance and only 0.9% of sites received a gold award.
Pride of place at Farrans must go to Contracts Manager John McReynolds, who collected a gold award for Northern Ireland Waters Belfast Sewers Project where Farrans are partnering in a joint venture with Morgan Est. A silver award was duly collected by both Gareth McKnight and Frank Hennity for their respective sites. Gareth is site manager at the private development project at Thaxton Mill Gardens in Lisburn while Frank is site manager on the city centre Belfast Streets Ahead Project for the Department of Social Development.
