Quarry and Asphalt Division
Northstone's Quarry and Asphalt Division is renowned for the quality of its products and service.
ISO 9001 Quality Management System
For over ten years, the Division's quality management system has been independently audited and accredited by the British Standards Institute (BSI). The system has expanded and developed over recent years to also included the requirements of the National Highways Sector Schemes (NHSS). Compliance with these schemes is also independently audited by the BSI and is encompassed within the extended scope of our ISO 9001 system. This presently is accredited to the following schemes:
NHSS 13A For the supply and application of surface dressings to road surfaces.
NHSS 14 For the quality management of the production of asphalt mixes.
NHSS 16 For the Laying of Asphalt Mixes.
Quality Technicians, Quality Testing
Our products are tested in the Division's fully equipped quality control laboratories which are strategically situated at our main regional production units. The laboratories are staffed by highly trained and experienced technical staff. It is our aim to fully develop our technical staff's skills and qualifications base. To this end, a number of technicians have successfully attained NVQ Level 2 qualifications in laboratory technicianship.
Our commitment to continuous improvement in quality management is evidenced by the fact that the Division’s laboratory in Croaghan is seeking accreditation to ISO 17025 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Accreditation is independently assessed by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
BBA HAPAS Accreditations
The United Kingdom Highways Authority ensures the performance and durability of proprietary thin layer materials, and the capabilities of the companies offering such products, through independent assessment by the British Board of Agrément.
We are BBA approved installer for both Type 1 and Type 3 Anti-skid materials.
We are also accredited by the BBA for the manufacture and installation of proprietary 14mm Maxphalte® Stone Mastic Asphalt thin surfacing system.
FEMAS
The Division's limestone quarry at Carmean produces a range of crushed and ground limestone products for the animal feed industry. The quality and safety of these products are assured under the Feed Material Assurance Scheme (FEMAS) which is assessed and administered by Product Authentication International (PAI) Limited.
