Northstone (NI) Limited, headquartered in Dunmurry, Belfast has three operating divisions, namely Farrans, Northstone Materials and CUBIS Systems. Overall the Company employs 1,200 employees and has an extensive supply chain.
The Company came into being in 1941 under the leadership of the late Sam Taggart, the managing director of Farrans Limited. There followed several acquisitions as Sam sought to develop a vertically integrated business with quarries, concrete manufacturers, engineering companies and sand producers joining the Farrans Ltd Group.
In 1977 Farrans Ltd was acquired by the T.B.F. Thompson (Garvagh) Limited Group which then became the largest construction and building materials Company in Northern Ireland at that time.
The following year, CRH plc, acquired the T.B.F. Thompson (Garvagh) Limited Group and thereby maintaining the Company’s market leading position in construction, building materials and access chambers.
In 2005 the Company was rebranded as Northstone (NI) Limited with the Company’s characteristic three chevron logo denoting the coming together of three separate businesses. Today those three businesses are integral divisions of Northstone (NI) Limited.
